Overview
Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in U.S. history, built above an active rail yard on Manhattan's West Side. Thornton Tomasetti provided structural engineering for the major towers, including 10 Hudson Yards (52 stories, 2.1M sq ft, LEED Platinum) and 30 Hudson Yards (101 stories, 2.6M sq ft), which features "The Edge" — a 65-foot cantilevered sky deck at the 100th floor, the highest in the Western Hemisphere.
Tenant fit-out work within these towers required evaluating the existing base building structure to accommodate tenant-specific requirements such as slab openings, supplemental framing, and concentrated loads — all while coordinating with building management and multiple tenant design teams simultaneously.
My Role
- Evaluated existing structural conditions and capacity to support tenant-specific modifications and loading requirements.
- Designed supplemental structural framing, slab reinforcement, and connection details for multiple tenant spaces.
- Coordinated with building management, tenant architects, and MEP engineers to integrate structural modifications seamlessly.
- Produced construction documents and managed the submittal and RFI process during construction.
